How Much Does Juvederm Voluma Cost?

Getting old is something that we cannot stop. But there is always something we can do to stay young. Scientific and medical breakthroughs have found a way to beat the physical signs of aging. Most people would move heaven and earth just to stop them. One such medical breakthrough that can help slow down these signs of aging is Juvederm Voluma.

When considering Juvederm Voluma, there may be a lot of questions on your mind. Is it safe? How does it work? Will it require some downtime? More importantly, how much does Juvederm Voluma cost? This article will address all these concerns and help you decide whether to proceed with the procedure or not.

What is Juvederm Voluma?

Juvederm Voluma is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. It contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, for reducing pain during injections. It is FDA-approved for adding volume to the cheeks and midface region. The filler is injected in areas such as the cheeks, nose, chin, temples, and the area under the eyes.

It was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2013. Juvederm voluma was one of the first fillers to be approved for correcting age-related volume loss in the cheek area. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring complex sugar found in the human body.

How Effective is Voluma?

Prior to gaining the approval of the FDA, Voluma was subjected to a two-year randomized multicenter controlled clinical trial at the National Institutes of Health. The objective was to evaluate its efficacy and safety. The clinical trials yielded the following results:

  • Most of the subjects experienced marked improvement in midface volume and facial appearance
  • Nearly half of the group retained the results for 24 months
  • After six months of treatment, subjects reported looking five years younger on average
  • Over 90% and 75% of subjects were satisfied with the results at 6 and 24 months, respectively, after their last treatment.

Two studies published in The Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy and Clinical, Cosmetic, and Investigation Dermatology corroborated these findings. The shorter study revealed a 95.6% patient satisfaction rate after 3 weeks. The second study was much longer with a 91% patient satisfaction rating at the end of the 24-month study. Both studies revealed that Juvederm Voluma is effective, has a favorable side-effect profile, and is associated with high patient satisfaction rates.

Recovering from the procedure takes a very short time usually just 10 -14 days. It is recommended that you should refrain from performing strenuous physical activity, direct sunlight, or vigorous face washing for 24 – 48 hours. Use sunblock if you need to be exposed to the sun. Also, inform your provider if you are taking herbal supplements or medications as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
